Parkland poker pro Matthew Waxman has notched the biggest victory of his life, winning the World Poker Tour Grand Prix de Paris.

“It’s been a life dream of mine to win a World Poker Tour title,” he said.

He earned 518,750 Euros, which converts to about $1729,896 in U.S. dollars.

Waxman came into the final table fifth in chips, but the group was tightly bunched. He made it to the final two as a huge chip leader.

“I was running very well right out of the gate, and I had a lot of spots where I was raising with hands that were appropriate, but they weren’t seeing my cards,” he said. “A lot of my big bets were decent hands.”

Waxman is well-known in South Florida, having won the Isle Poker Classic in January, earning more than $86K. He has won more than $1 million combined in live games and online, although the online thing dried up with the April 15 shutdown of online poker. (He played under the name BigStackBBQ and more recently Poligraph.)

His also record a live win for a $117,797 December victory in Atlantic City in a World Series of Poker circuit event, and has cashed at least nine times in the WSOP in Las Vegas, including five in 2010.

He told the WPT he was about to buy a house or a condo before he left for France.

“Now I might get a little upgrade,” he said.
