Authorities are investigating a crash that killed one person when a car smashed into a tree and burst into flames.
The single-vehicle crash happened about 10 p.m. Tuesday along the 3000 block of Coral Springs Drive, which is south of Sample Road and north of Royal Palm Boulevard.

Officers driving north on Coral Springs Drive noticed a flame erupting in the median and then saw that a vehicle had struck the tree, said Lt. Brad McKeone.
“Witnesses did say that they observed the vehicle traveling northbound on Coral Springs Drive at a high rate of speed, swerving in and out of traffic prior to it crossing over the median and then striking the tree,” McKeone said.
Only one person, believed to be a man in his early 20s, was inside the vehicle, he said.
His identity has not been released.
