Parkland landed a big star — from the 1980s — to celebrate its 50th birthday next year.
Rick Springfield, who made young girls swoon with “Jessie’s Girl” and their moms’ hearts beat faster on “General Hospital,” will be in concert at Pine Trails Park on May 4.
The city is spending more than half its $95,000 birthday budget on Springfield, whose fee is $49,000.

The concert is free and is open to all. Neither tickets — nor Parkland residency — are required.
“We have a lot of people in the city dying to see him,” said Scott Davidoff, Parks and Recreation director.
